Gov. Pritzker Honors Victims and Vows to Keep Fighting Federal Overreach
CHICAGO, IL — On the anniversary of the beginning of Operation Midway Blitz, Governor JB Pritzker released a video reflecting on the invasion’s impact on the state. He honored the victims, highlighted how his administration fought back, and praised Illinoisans for standing up for one another.
Gov. Pritzker defended Illinoisans in the face of Operation Midway Blitz by:
- Establishing the Illinois Accountability Commission to ensure that both the agents on the streets in Chicago and the officials directing them from Washington face consequences for the violence they unleashed.
- Successfully suing the Trump administration to keep federalized troops out of Illinois.
- Creating protections for immigrants at schools, hospitals, courthouses, and daycares.
As families and small businesses across our state continue to recover from this violent invasion, Darren Bailey has made clear that he stands firmly with Donald Trump’s masked federal agents, falsely claiming that they only targeted “the most dangerous people.” Bailey even called for soldiers to be unleashed on our streets.
While Darren Bailey cowers to Trump and spreads hateful rhetoric, Governor JB Pritzker will continue to stand up for all Illinoisans, no matter their background.

GOVERNOR JB PRITZKER: A year ago today, Donald Trump sent his troops to terrorize our state in Operation Midway Blitz.
Since then, I’ve seen the resilience of our communities and our people.
Illinois stood strong, from taking care of our neighbors to suing the Trump administration to keep federalized troops out of our state and winning.
When Trump and his goons showed us their worst, Illinois showed America its best.
Whether it was making sure that our neighbors knew their rights, documenting ICE’s brutality, or peacefully protesting, we worked together to stand up to Donald
Trump.

GOVERNOR PRITZKER: For Latino families in Illinois, the raids changed everything.
Families were split apart and so many were forced to make the tough decision of whether to send their children to school and risk that they might come home to an empty house where their parents had been taken away.
Shop owners struggled to keep their small businesses afloat as patrons were fearful of going outside.
The cruelty of the Trump administration was seen on TV screens across the country.
In Illinois, we lost Nenko Stanev Gantchev, a Chicago small business owner who died in ICE
custody.
And Silverio Villegas González, a Franklin Park resident who was fatally shot during a traffic stop.
And Marimar Martinez showed the kind of courage I hope none of us ever is asked to find. She survived being shot five times by ICE and then testified about it before Congress.
Even as the Department of Homeland Security lied and called her a domestic terrorist, she refused to back down and instead told her story again and again and again.
Hear me when I say that we will continue to hold the Trump administration accountable. We didn’t want the masked ICE or CBP agents in unmarked cars in our communities then, and we don’t want them now.
I will always stand with the people of our state, and I will never shy away from fighting back against the Trump administration.
We may have gotten rid of Greg Bovino and Kristi Noem, but we will stand against anyone who tries to take away the rights of Illinoisans.
Here in the Land of Lincoln, we stand united against tyranny.
