Mitchell Underscored Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats’ Work to Enshrine Reproductive Rights in Illinois in the Wake of Federal Government’s Attacks
GRANITE CITY, IL – Today, lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Christian Mitchell joined Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez, local elected officials, community leaders, and healthcare professionals to blast Donald Trump and MAGA’s crusade against reproductive rights.
On the third stop on the “Cost of MAGA” press tour, Mitchell called out the federal government’s ruthless pursuit to strip away women’s reproductive rights and healthcare access. Mitchell highlighted that across the country, nearly two out of three women of color live in states that have experienced extreme clinic closures and reproductive care access limitations.
While Darren Bailey praises these restrictions and compares abortion to the Holocaust, Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats have made Illinois a safe haven for abortion access, signing the Reproductive Health Act, which enshrined comprehensive reproductive healthcare access into Illinois law.
“After Roe v. Wade was overturned, Darren Bailey not only celebrated it but actively opposed Governor Pritzker’s efforts to protect abortion rights in Illinois,” said lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Christian Mitchell. “That’s not the leadership that Illinois needs. It’s not the leadership that Illinois deserves. In Illinois, we trust women. We believe that women should be the only people making decisions for their own bodies. So, while Illinois Republicans want to take those rights away, Illinois Democrats are here to fight.”
