CHICAGO, IL — Three weeks after saying Donald Trump has “nothing to do with” his campaign for governor, Darren Bailey was spotted in the president’s box at the RNC’s Trumpapalooza convention in Texas. It turns out, when push comes to shove, he simply cannot resist an invitation from his puppet master.

In response, JB for Governor campaign spokesperson Leah Hurwitz released the following statement:
“Darren Bailey lied to the people of Illinois when he said his campaign had ‘nothing to do with’ Donald Trump. This trip to Trumpapalooza makes one thing clear: when Donald Trump calls, Darren Bailey comes running.”
Darren was pretty cagey about sharing details about his visit. But now that the festivities are over, Darren owes Illinoisans answers to a few questions:
1. How much did you pay to go? Some attendees dropped nearly $90,000 to get a photo with Trump, some got freebie tickets after the GOP realized they were looking at thousands of empty seats. Where were you in the fold?
2. What did you think of Donald Trump’s plan to bribe Americans into handing Republicans the House and Senate? Illinoisans know you’ve never been a fan of balanced budgets, but a taxpayer-funded $1 trillion bribe to save Donald Trump’s ass seems a little extreme, even for you.
3. Did you get any merch? And can we expect to see you in a sequined “Make America Great Again” varsity jacket on the campaign trail?
4. What is Ted Cruz like in person? Noticed Trump had you sit right by his good friend Ted Cruz. Did he offer any Cancun travel tips?
5. Will you be seeing Trump when he comes to Illinois? If you’re willing to hop on a plane to watch Trump speak in Texas, it should be no trouble to catch him in Medinah!
