Darren Bailey’s Running Mate Tells Supporters “Drown Out Chicago”

CHICAGO, IL — At a campaign town hall in Bloomington last night, Darren Bailey’s running mate called on their supporters to “drown out Chicago.” His comment was the latest in the Bailey campaign’s long tradition of insulting, divisive rhetoric against Chicago and its residents.

As a reminder, Darren Bailey has repeatedly called the city of Chicago a “hellhole.” He co-sponsored legislation to kick Chicago out of the state of Illinois. He supported Donald Trump’s attempt to deploy of National Guard troops into Chicago and stood idly by every single time the president disparaged the city and its people.

In response, JB for Governor campaign spokesperson Alex Gough released the following statement:

“Darren Bailey and his running mate are incapable of containing their disdain for Chicagoans. After a pathetic legislative career defined more by attempts to kick Chicago out of Illinois than by actual bills signed into law, it should come as no surprise that Bailey’s campaign strategy is just more of the same. Leadership means bringing people together, not attempting to ‘drown out’ the 2.7 million people of Chicago.”
