CHICAGO, IL – Thanks to Governor JB Pritzker’s eighth balanced budget, Illinois families are expected to save up to $10 million in school supplies. During this year’s Back-to-School State Tax Holiday, the state will lower its sales tax from 6.25% to 1.25% on essential school items including clothing, footwear, and school supplies from August 7 through August 16, 2026.
As Donald Trump’s failing policies cause prices to skyrocket, Gov. Pritzker continues to fight back by putting money back into Illinoisans’ pockets. Gov. Pritzker believes everyone deserves a fair shot at success, and he will keep working to make sure every Illinois student has the tools for a fair and accessible education.
