Unions Representing 150,000 Working People Across Illinois Unite to Defeat Bruce Rauner

Chicago, IL – Today, the SEIU Illinois State Council endorsed JB Pritzker for governor. The state council includes SEIU Local 1, SEIU Local 73, and SEIU Healthcare, and represents over 150,000 working people across Illinois.

“I’m so honored to receive the endorsement of the SEIU Illinois State Council and the 150,000 hardworking Illinoisans they represent,” said JB Pritzker. “While Bruce Rauner has made attacking unions and hurting working people his top priority, I will proudly stand with our state’s labor movement as governor. I will fight for a $15 minimum wage, for the rights of all workers to organize, and for the right to collectively bargain. Illinois’ working families deserve a leader, not a failure, in the governor’s office and with the help of our state’s labor movement, we will beat Bruce Rauner and put Springfield back on the side of working families.”

“The janitors, health care and home care workers, security officers, social service workers, adjunct faculty, doorstaff and more of SEIU know JB Pritzker will be the leader working families need in Springfield,” said SEIU Illinois State Council Vice President Greg Kelley. “From his pledge to raise the Illinois minimum wage to $15 to his strong support for expanding affordable healthcare and child care, JB has demonstrated his commitment to stand up for our state’s working families.”

“By every single metric, Bruce Rauner is a complete disaster for working people,” said SEIU Illinois State Council President Tom Balanoff. “Stagnant wages, tepid economic growth, ballooning debt, attacks on working people and a steadfast refusal to do the basics of his job are just a few examples of his failed record and leadership. Illinois working families deserve better than a right-wing ideologue like Bruce Rauner. The working people of the labor movement, including 150,000 SEIU members, are ready to defeat Bruce Rauner in November.”
