REALITY CHECK: Rauner Has Let Illinois’ Infrastructure Crumble

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Illinois’ role as a transportation hub for the nation is a critical component of our economy, but under Bruce Rauner our state’s infrastructure has crumbled. From highways and railroads to waterways and broadband access, Rauner’s lack of investment has led to maintenance piling up and needed projects going unfunded.

REALITY CHECK:

  • Rauner’s 736-day budget crisis forced the Illinois Department of Transportation to temporarily suspend all roadwork operations.
  • Nearly one in 10 bridges in Illinois are structurally deficient.
  • Almost 40% of rural Illinoisans have no access to high-speed internet service.
  • More than one in three roads will be in unacceptable condition within five years because of Rauner’s disinvestment.
