REALITY CHECK: Bruce Rauner Can’t Name a Real Accomplishment

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Bruce Rauner promised Illinois a turnaround, and instead gave this state the runaround. For three years, Rauner lurched the state from crisis to crisis, failing to accomplish anything of note on his agenda and wreaking havoc on Illinois families. With Rauner now pressed to explain why a second term will be different than his first, the failed governor is coming up empty.

REALITY CHECK:

  • Bruce Rauner manufactured a 736-day budget crisis to force his political agenda on Illinois.
  • Rauner has repeatedly been rebuked by his own party, with bipartisan members of the General Assembly overriding his budget and school funding vetoes.
  • He was panned for rolling out a sham list of accomplishments, touting items that weren’t finished or that he opposed.
  • Rauner was named the “Worst Republican Governor in America” by the National Review.
  • At the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board Meeting on Monday, Rauner was blasted for talking about the same things for three years with no progress.
