Rauner Failed Me: Mike Gudwien’s Story

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Chicago, IL – Today, JB for Governor released a new story in the multimedia “Rauner Failed Me” campaign highlighting the real people who have been hurt by Bruce Rauner’s failures as governor.

Mike, an educator at Williamsville High School, is the latest Illinoisan to be featured in the campaign. Mike’s school has been forced to spend down it’s rainy day fund and slash budgets because of Bruce Rauner’s budget crisis. Mike’s story, and the stories of others who have been impacted by Bruce Rauner’s gross mismanagement can be found at the campaign’s website: RaunerFailedMe.com.

“Bruce Rauner has forced instability and crisis on our public education system with devastating effects on teachers like Mike and his students,” said Pritzker campaign communications director Galia Slayen. “Rauner has leveraged our students’ futures, failed Illinois’ educators, and created lasting damage that will take years to recover from.”

“From my standpoint as a teacher, when Bruce Rauner got into office everyone put the brakes on everything because we had no idea what was going to happen,” said Mike Gudwien. “My school had to spend down our rainy day fund, and we’re at rock bottom now. When budgeting becomes guess work, it’s a serious problem. We need a governor like JB who respects teachers and will prioritize public education so that kids get a good education no matter what zip code they grow up in. To govern a state, you have to care about the problems facing the people who live here, and JB gets it.”
