Rauner Failed Me: Gina Harris’ Story

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Chicago, IL – Today, JB for Governor released a new story in the multimedia “Rauner Failed Me” campaign highlighting the real people who have been hurt by Bruce Rauner’s failures as governor.

Gina, an elementary school teacher in Maywood, is the latest Illinoisan to be featured in the campaign. Gina was failed by Bruce Rauner when her school wasn’t sure if they could open because of Rauner’s constant crises. Gina’s story, and the stories of others who have been impacted by Bruce Rauner’s gross mismanagement can be found at the campaign’s website: RaunerFailedMe.com.

“Our students should be able to get a good education no matter their zip code, but Bruce Rauner has decimated the tools teachers like Gina use to help their students thrive,” said Pritzker campaign communications director Galia Slayen. “Our failed governor wants to wipe his hands of responsibility and say, ‘I’m not in charge,’ but Illinois’ working families are ready to hold him accountable.”

“During the budget crisis, we didn’t know if we could open in the fall or how long we could stay open,” said Gina Harris. “We were scared for our students and whether or not they would be able to get their education. My district already does not have the same resources as more affluent districts, so dealing with Bruce Rauner’s cuts and instability has been really damaging to us. I support JB because he understands this and has a proven record of expanding quality education. What he did with early childhood education shows me that he cares. He’s there, he listens, and he’s supportive of what our students need. That’s the kind of leadership that will go a long way to help students like mine.”
