SPRINGFIELD, IL — Yesterday, Darren Bailey attended Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair and treated voters to lies, misinformation, and excuses for taking money from a child sex predator. He proved once again that he is too extreme for Illinois.
Here are five shocking moments from yesterday:
- Darren Bailey refused to answer whether he believed humans and dinosaurs walked the Earth together, claiming voters won’t be “swayed by that.”
Reality Check: According to the Field Museum, Britannica, and the U.S. Geological Survey, more than 65 million years passed between the extinction of dinosaurs and the earliest humans.
- Darren Bailey insisted he would debate Governor JB Pritzker “every day the whole month of September and October.”
Reality Check: Bailey refused to commit to the WTTW debate that Gov. Pritzker actually agreed to.
- When confronted about taking donations from a registered sex offender, Bailey insisted that he “never met” him.
Reality Check: The Sun-Times reported that Bailey attended a service at the church where Barr now serves as pastor.
- When asked about the campaign taking money from a child sex offender, Bailey’s running mate conspiratorially claimed he was “questionable about who actually donated.”
Reality Check: The Bailey campaign admitted they received money from a sex offender.
- Darren Bailey affirmed that based on his own “research,” the registered sex offender is not a pastor.
Reality Check: The Sun-Times reported that he is.
