CHICAGO, IL — New reporting from Fox 32 revealed that Darren Bailey’s running mate, Aaron Del Mar, made racist comments at a campaign event in McHenry County. While standing next to Darren Bailey, Del Mar called George Floyd “one of the grossest human beings ever.” Tonight, he doubled down on the statement; when asked if this was a racist comment, Aaron Del Mar replied, “No.”
In response, JB for Governor spokesperson Leah Hurwitz released the following statement:
“Governor JB Pritzker strongly condemns the recent comments from the Bailey ticket. While Del Mar’s statements are despicable, they will come as no surprise to Illinoisans who know this campaign’s track record of racist, hateful comments. These are the people who founded a school with a curriculum that teaches children that slaveholders treated their slaves well, said abortion is worse than the Holocaust, called Chicago a ‘hellhole,’ welcomed Trump’s troops to our state, and have repeatedly attacked the LGBTQ+ community. Illinoisans won’t let these people lead.”
