Mitchell Highlighted How Illinois Democrats Are Taking Action to Support Illinoisans in the Wake of SNAP Cuts
BLOOMINGTON, IL – Today, lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Christian Mitchell joined the Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) and McLean County elected officials to launch the “Cost of MAGA” press tour and condemn federal cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Mitchell and DPI are traveling the state to condemn the damage these cuts have caused Illinois families and hear directly from local leaders and community members. Trump and MAGA Republicans have pushed more than 360,000 low-income Illinoisans off of SNAP. On October 1, the federal government will increase the burden of SNAP’s administrative costs on the states, leaving Illinois to cover 75% of the costs, an estimated additional $80 million per year.
As Trump takes the food off families’ plates and Darren Bailey stands idly by, Illinois Democrats are taking action. Gov. Pritzker delivered $400 in emergency assistance for families kicked off food assistance in the state budget, as well as delivering nearly $30 million to combat food deserts.

“Thanks to quick work by Illinois Democrats, families in McLean County will have access to support, resources, and be able to afford their groceries on October 1,” said lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Christian Mitchell. “But let’s be clear about what happened. Trump handed Illinois taxpayers a bill the federal government used to pay, and he did it all to fund tax breaks for his wealthy friends.”
