- Although he’s just 39, the former University of Chicago administrator and current lieutenant governor candidate has spent years quietly building a reputation behind the scenes as an artful policy wonk with a knack for uniting dissenting voices.
- Those who have witnessed his evolution from fresh-faced college student to poised politico describe him as a strategic thinker and a clever optimist who earnestly believes in God and country. An astute do-gooder with a nagging sense of purpose. A lone Sox fan in a family that bleeds Cubbie Blue. And a military history buff and proud son of Illinois who counts the Civil War hero-turned-President Ulysses S. Grant among his heroes.
- “Something that’s always impressed me about Christian is that from the moment he was old enough to fight for others, he did just that,” Pritzker said in a statement to Block Club. “Yes, he’s brilliant and driven, but what sets him apart is his good heart. He’s funny too. His faith and his family have been the bedrock of his fight for others. It’s something he and I bonded over early on. We’ve become family to each other, and I’m thrilled to have him as my partner in this race.”
- “When I go and wear my uniform to serve in Peoria, I don’t know how most of my colleagues are voting. Many of them are almost certainly not voting for me. It doesn’t matter, we got a job to do. None of that’s partisan or political, and it’s a reminder that we can still do big stuff together, even if we don’t share all of the same values,” said Mitchell.
