Hours Before Campaign Rally with Xenophobe Mary Miller, Darren Bailey Uses Little Village as a Photo Op

CHICAGO, IL — Yesterday, hours before his running mate rallied with noted xenophobe Mary Miller, Darren Bailey had the audacity to post a campaign video from Little Village. This was particularly galling considering his record of attacks against Latino communities in Chicago.

Yesterday evening, Bailey’s campaign held a rally with Congresswoman Mary Miller. Also yesterday, Miller shared a misleading statistic about immigrants abusing welfare services and urged ICE to, “Get them out of our country.” Miller’s record of hate also includes claiming, “Hitler was right on one thing” and calling the overturn of Roe v. Wade a “historic victory for white life.”

Darren Bailey’s own actions prove that he does not care about the safety of families in Little Village. During Donald Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz, Illinois communities like Little Village saw masked agents detain nearly 1,900 residents, most with no criminal record. Bailey cheered on Trump’s henchmen and defended the violent invasion saying it targeted “the most dangerous people,” despite the fact that 81% of those arrested had no criminal convictions, and multiple unarmed, nonviolent citizens and immigrants were shot or assaulted.

Bailey’s campaign is surrounded by racist staffers and allies. Kristina McCloy, Bailey’s intern coordinator, personal donor, and close friend has repeatedly made racist comments against the Latino and Black communities, including criticizing a local politician for participating in “Mexican parades.”

In response, JB for Governor campaign spokesperson Jose Sanchez Molina released the following statement:

“Right where Darren Bailey stood for a photo op, masked agents hunted families down, separated children from their parents, tear gassed law-abiding Illinoisans, and shot a U.S citizen. If he wants to prove that he’s not the same extremist who cheered on agents who detained people based on their skin color, he can start by denouncing Mary Miller’s comments and cutting ties with Kristina McCloy. Until then, he should stay the hell away from 26th street.”
