Under Governor Pritzker, Chicago Has Welcomed Sports, Arts, and Cultural Events, Enriching City’s Economy, Fostering Community
CHICAGO, IL – This week, Governor JB Pritzker welcomed the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) site selection committee to Chicago. Chicago has been named one of five cities under consideration to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention.
The committee’s consideration reflects Chicago’s reputation as a premier destination for hosting large-scale events, as well as the success of the 2024 DNC, which generated $371 million for Chicago’s economy and safely accommodated tens of thousands of visitors for the event.
If the DNC selects Chicago as the 2028 or 2032 convention site, it will join several major organizations that have chosen the city to host flagship events, from the United Nations’ International Jazz Day, to the James Beard Foundation Awards, to major sporting events like the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game, and the 2027 MLB All-Star Game.
Because of Gov. Pritzker’s sustained focus on infrastructure investments and economic development across Illinois, Chicago is more ready than ever to host the Democratic National Convention.
“In 2024, Chicago set the standard for political conventions,” said Gov. Pritzker. “Since then, in the face of Donald Trump’s attempts to tear our city apart, we have shown the country our resilience and grit. There’s no place better than Chicago to make clear that the Democratic Party knows how to fight and deliver for the American people.”
“In order to show the country what the Democratic Party stands for, we need a DNC host that can deliver a safe and successful convention,” said lieutenant governor candidate Christian Mitchell. “Our city’s business, labor, and political leaders came together to do it in 2024, and they can do it again.”
Under Gov. Pritzker, Illinois and Chicago are attracting major events, from political conventions to cultural festivals, that showcase the region’s world-class transit infrastructure, vibrant culture, and incredible residents.
