CHICAGO, IL – Today, Governor JB Pritzker and lieutenant governor candidate Christian Mitchell were endorsed by Gun Violence Prevention PAC of Illinois (G-PAC), the state’s leading gun violence prevention advocacy organization. Since day one, Governor Pritzker has focused on taking illegal guns off the streets and strengthening gun safety laws to protect Illinois families.
“From his first days in office, Gov. Pritzker has shown his commitment to our fight to end gun violence – and he hasn’t looked back since,” said Kathleen Sances, G-PAC President & CEO. “Under the governor’s leadership, Illinois is now a national leader in protecting families and communities from the ravages of gun violence. We are committed to help elect the Pritzker ticket because of the administration’s dedication to protecting innocent lives over profits of the corporate gun lobby.”
“Every family deserves to feel safe from gun violence, and here in Illinois we have made enormous progress to ensure our communities are protected,” said Governor Pritzker. “There is still more to be done, and I will not rest until every person in every zip code in Illinois is safe from the scourge of gun violence. I am honored to receive G-PAC’s endorsement.”
“I’ve worked closely with JB Pritzker to pass an assault weapons ban and strengthen our state’s gun laws. There is no one who works harder than JB to ensure our state is a safe place for everyone,” said lieutenant governor candidate Christian Mitchell. “I’m proud to receive the endorsement of G-PAC and continue to work together to end gun violence in our communities.”
Since Governor Pritzker took office, Illinois has taken significant action to combat gun violence in Illinois, including:
- Banning assault weapons, ghost guns, bump stocks and high-capacity magazines
- Implementing gun dealer licensing to eliminate straw purchases and reduce illegal gun trafficking
- Strengthening safe storage and lost and stolen gun laws to prevent children, at-risk individuals and criminals from accessing deadly firearms and inflicting crime and violence in communities
- Enabling law enforcement to remove dangerous weapons from known domestic abusers and better protect survivors of domestic violence
During his time as an Illinois representative and deputy governor, Mitchell:
- Led the effort to pass Illinois’ landmark assault weapons ban
- Advocated for universal background checks
- Formed the Illinois Gun Trafficking Task Force to develop legislative solutions that disrupt cycles of violence and crime
