An 8th straight balanced budget proposal builds upon 7 years of lowering costs for Illinoisans
SPRINGFIELD — During his State of the State address, Governor JB Pritzker outlined his 8th balanced budget: a plan to lower costs and improve the lives of Illinoisans.
“Everything is just too damned expensive,” said Gov. Pritzker during his State of the State Address. “That’s why now more than ever, we must work together to make life more affordable for Illinois’ working families. I propose an agenda to address the high cost of living that makes life easier for the middle class and those striving to get there.”
Donald Trump, through his illegal deprivation of federal funds and confiscation of resources, has cost the people of Illinois $8.4 billion. Despite the chaos coming from Washington, Gov. Pritzker is protecting Illinoisans’ wallets and promoting fiscal stewardship.
This budget builds on Gov. Pritzker’s record of lowering costs and uplifting working families.
“Governor Pritzker laid out a bold plan yesterday, one that continues to move Illinois toward a brighter future: where all Illinois families can find a good home or apartment, and heat it with reliable and affordable clean energy,” said Lieutenant Governor candidate Christian Mitchell. “The Governor is going to cut red tape, fast-tracking construction of new housing units to meet the needs of Illinois residents. I’m proud to be standing with him to protect and deliver even more progress.”
Gov. Pritzker outlined plans to support working families by:
- Lowering housing costs by cutting through the red tape that makes new construction expensive or impossible
- Reducing energy costs by creating more clean, nuclear energy in Illinois and pushing data centers to pay their fair share of energy costs
- Requiring social media companies to invest in the success of Illinois students
- Protecting Illinois consumers from junk fees and soaring home insurance costs
This budget plan comes on the heels of Gov. Pritzker’s seven-year record of lowering costs for Illinois families. Since becoming governor, he has:
- Erased more than $1.1B in medical debt
- Raised the minimum wage, giving 1.4 million workers a raise
- Created and doubled a state child tax credit over the last two years
- Eliminated the state grocery tax
- Expanded the earned income tax credit up to $1,600 per person
- Streamlined property tax relief for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities
In the face of attacks by Donald Trump and his enablers in the ILGOP, Gov. Pritzker is squarely focused on Illinois’ future: a future where hardworking Illinoisans can live in decent homes, cover their bills, and count on a good education for their kids.
