CHICAGO, IL — Governor JB Pritzker has consistently stood up to Trump, protecting Illinoisans’ rights and fighting for all the progress the state has made.
Gov. Pritzker has sounded the alarm on Trump’s authoritarian playbook, warning of his attacks on the economy and working families. He called out Trump for being a “wannabe dictator” and repeatedly demanded that the 25th Amendment be invoked to remove the out-of-control president from office. The governor’s warnings have been spot-on.
Here are five key examples of Gov. Pritzker standing up to Trump and his corrupt agenda:
1. Gov. Pritzker demanded Trump pay up for his illegal tariffs.
In February, Gov. Pritzker called for Trump to give a $1,700 refund to each Illinois family for his illegal tariff taxes that sent prices through the roof. He sent Trump a letter with an attached invoice.
2. Gov. Pritzker launched the Illinois Accountability Commission.
In October last year, Gov. Pritzker established the Illinois Accountability Commission to hold ICE and CBP agents accountable for their illegal actions by collecting evidence and holding hearings to form a record of their misconduct. He also signed legislation to keep ICE out of courthouses, schools, daycares, and hospitals.
3. Gov. Pritzker defeated Trump in the Supreme Court to stop him from militarizing Chicago.
Last fall, Trump sent ICE and CBP to attack Illinois communities and threatened to jail the governor. Gov. Pritzker fought back saying, “If you come for my people, you come through me.” When Trump deployed the National Guard to Chicago, Gov. Pritzker took legal action to stop him from militarizing the city.
4. Gov. Pritzker added Illinois to the World Health Organization (WHO).
In February, Gov. Pritzker entered Illinois into the WHO to ensure the state has proper resources and a coordinated network to respond to public health threats. This followed Trump’s withdrawal from the WHO in January.
5. Gov. Pritzker protected workers’ rights amid Trump’s rollbacks on workplace protections.
In August last year, Gov. Pritzker signed the Illinois Workers’ Rights and Safety Act and other legislation to protect fair compensation and ensure workplace protections amid federal rollbacks on these protections.
Gov. Pritzker is committed to protecting Illinois from Trump’s failing agenda and fighting against his attempts to roll back rights and tear communities apart.
