FACT CHECK: JB Pritzker Has Delivered Billions in Tax Relief, Darren Bailey Voted to Raise Property Taxes 13 Times

CHICAGO, IL — Governor JB Pritzker has delivered billions of dollars in tax relief for Illinois families and businesses, all while keeping the budget balanced and not raising income taxes. Darren Bailey, however, voted 13 times to raise property taxes and is focused only on helping billionaires and corporations.

Gov. Pritzker has an extensive track record of helping Illinois families and businesses. His list of achievements includes:

  • Enacting a plan that provided $1.8 billion in tax relief to people across Illinois.
  • Establishing the state’s first back-to-school sales tax holiday in over a decade, which was created to help families save $50 million on school supplies.
  • Creating and doubling Illinois’ child tax credit, which helped 800,000 Illinois working families receive more than $200 million in tax cuts between 2024 and 2025.
  • Eliminating the state grocery tax.
  • Expanding relief on property taxes to help seniors afford to stay in their homes.
  • Closing a $650 million corporate tax loophole, ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share.
  • Cutting taxes for up to 400,000 small businesses.

In contrast, Darren Bailey has demonstrated time and again that his only concern is helping billionaires and corporations. He has voted to raise property taxes 13 times — amounting to an 81% increase — and doesn’t believe the wealthiest individuals should pay their fair share. Despite campaigning on a promise to help Illinois families, he has voted to do exactly the opposite.

Gov. Pritzker has consistently delivered for Illinois families, fighting to ensure that everyone can afford groceries, gas, healthcare, and other basic essentials. Darren Bailey prioritizes the ultra-wealthy and cannot be trusted to fight for working families.
