At an Event Last Week, Bailey Claimed “There’s No One Here More
Pro-Life” Than Him
CHICAGO, IL – Last week, Darren Bailey stepped away from Chicago to reassure supporters that his rabid opposition to reproductive rights remains intact. He declared that there is “no one here more pro-life” than him. And his record backs it up: Bailey has consistently opposed abortion without exceptions, including in cases of rape or incest, earning him top ratings from Illinois Right to Life Action.
In response, JB for Governor campaign spokesperson Alex Gough released the following statement:
“Under Governor Pritzker’s leadership, Illinois has become a safe haven for reproductive rights as Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans attack those freedoms nationwide. Under Darren Bailey, those protections would be stripped away, threatening the fundamental freedoms Illinois women depend on. Illinois voters have repeatedly rejected this extreme MAGA agenda, and this November, they’ll do it again.”
Darren Bailey’s anti-abortion agenda is too extreme for Illinois. Darren Bailey voted against the Reproductive Health Act, which codified the right to choose into state law and removed criminal liability for doctors who perform abortions. Bailey even served as a co-sponsor of a bill that would repeal the Reproductive Health Act entirely.
He previously claimed that the Holocaust “doesn’t even compare” to abortion, suggesting that allowing women to make their own healthcare decisions compares to the systemic mass extermination of Jews during the Holocaust.
As the Trump administration and MAGA Republicans continue their assault on reproductive rights, Governor JB Pritzker has pushed back. He codified reproductive rights into state law, protected access to IVF, and shielded healthcare providers from prosecution. Gov. Pritzker has ensured that Illinois women have the ability to make their own personal healthcare decisions, even as MAGA Republicans like Darren Bailey try to take us backward.
