CHICAGO — In the wake of Trump’s masked federal agents killing another person in Minneapolis, Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey failed to publicly acknowledge or condemn the killing, while also refusing to respond to questions about the horrific events in Minneapolis. As leaders from both parties call for accountability and investigations, Darren Bailey remains silent.
In response, JB for Governor Communications Director Alex Gough released the following statement:
“Alex Pretti was killed in Minneapolis by Trump’s masked federal agents, and Darren Bailey refuses to even acknowledge it. Instead of answering questions or condemning the killing, Bailey spent the weekend on Facebook Live. During this time, he couldn’t even find it within himself to offer words of support for the family who just lost a loved one to a heinous act of violence. Illinoisans deserve leaders who will hold those who abuse their power accountable, not candidates whose moral compass points whichever direction Donald Trump tells it to and who refuse to speak out when innocent lives are lost.”
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood, who served as a Trump 2020 Illinois Campaign Co-Chair, issued a statement calling the Minneapolis shooting “deeply concerning.” Darren Bailey could not even manage that.
While Governor Pritzker continues to demand an end to Trump’s assault on American cities, Darren Bailey continues to ride Donald Trump’s coattails.
