During an Appearance Last Week, He Claimed No One Is “More Pro-Second Amendment”
CHICAGO, IL – After months of attempting to distance from his extreme record, Darren Bailey last week reminded voters of his true stance on guns, saying, “Anyone that knows me knows there’s no one here…more pro-Second Amendment than I.”
For once, Bailey is telling voters the truth. We know from his record that he supports an extreme agenda that would allow unrestricted access to firearms and put Illinois children and families at risk.
In response, JB for Governor campaign spokesperson Alex Gough released the following statement:
”Darren Bailey supports extreme policies that would make it easier for dangerous people to get their hands on lethal firearms. He claims to care about public safety, but advocates for the ownership of weapons of war that flood our streets. Once again, he is reminding voters that his extreme, out-of-step agenda has not changed.”
When Gov. Pritzker fought to fund violence prevention programs, upgrade crime labs, and increase police, Bailey voted against it.
During his 2024 congressional campaign, Bailey said he supports “zero regulations” on guns. As a state legislator, he voted against the Illinois assault weapons ban and even said he personally wouldn’t comply with it, introduced legislation to eliminate Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) cards, and said himself he would “never, ever give up” his AR-15 or any other gun. And, just 90 minutes after the devastating Highland Park shooting on the Fourth of July that left 7 dead and 48 wounded, Bailey went to social media, telling people to “move on.”
While Trump and his MAGA sycophants try to roll back gun safety laws that prevent dangerous people from acquiring firearms, Governor JB Pritzker is committed to ensuring every Illinoisan is safe from gun violence, no matter their zip code. He banned assault weapons, strengthened safe firearm storage and tracing requirements, and doubled funding to violence prevention programs.
When it comes to gun safety, Darren Bailey is the same extremist he always has been – at least he’s finally being honest about it.
