Darren Bailey Abandons Farmers, Supports Trump’s Harmful Policies

CHICAGO, IL — Darren Bailey supports Donald Trump’s agenda, even though it is hurting Illinois farmers. Trump’s war in Iran and his trade wars are burdening farmers across our state with soaring costs and pushing them to the financial brink.

Darren Bailey has repeatedly declined to condemn Donald Trump’s war in Iran, despite the fact that the war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have jacked up input costs like fuel and fertilizer. Since the beginning of the Iran war, the cost of diesel has increased 33 percent, and the cost of farm necessities like urea, ammonia, and diammonium phosphate has increased.

At the Illinois Agriculture Legislative Forum, Darren Bailey described Trump’s tariffs as “short-term pain for a long-term gain,” despite the fact that farmers have been feeling the pain for more than a year with no gain in sight. This year, Illinois corn growers are projected to lose anywhere from $45 to $91 per acre of corn.

Bailey’s stances show that his loyalty to Trump comes first and Illinois farmers come last. Illinois farmers deserve leadership that supports them, not a “yes man” for someone who has undercut them at every turn.
