The Trump Administration Canceled $583M in Grant Funding for IL
CHICAGO, IL – The Trump administration just admitted in a federal court filing to canceling federal grants to states solely because they did not vote for Donald Trump in 2024. In 2025, the Trump administration canceled $583 million in federal grant funding intended for Illinois organizations that would have gone toward lowering energy costs, strengthening grid reliability, and creating energy jobs. This is a politically motivated attack on Illinois working families already struggling to keep up with soaring costs from Trump’s tariffs and war with Iran.
Darren Bailey is silent as usual, proving once again that he cares more about Trump and the MAGA agenda than Illinois families.
“Donald Trump’s cancellation of federal grant funds for Illinois organizations was obviously a political attack from the start, and now his own officials have admitted it in court,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “These are the actions of a narcissistic authoritarian blinded by the glare of his own ego, and they are hurting working families in my state. Despite what he might think, Donald Trump is not the president of MAGA, he is the president of all America. He must release remaining federal grants to Illinois immediately.”
