JB knows that the first job of any elected official is to keep their constituents safe. That’s why he’s worked to expand funding for our first responders and strengthen gun safety laws to protect Illinois families in every corner of the state.
Gun Safety
Banned assault weapons, ghost guns, bump stocks and high-capacity magazines
Reduced Violence
Doubled funding for violence prevention, and violence intervention while boosting investments in mental health and substance use treatment
Jailing Violent Criminals
Empowered judges to keep violent criminals off the streets by preventing them from buying their way out of jail
Hired Police
Added hundreds of troopers to the Illinois State Police, including the largest cadet class in state history
Crime Labs
Built a state of the art forensics laboratory to assist in solving crimes, eliminated the longstanding backlog of rape kits, and funded an additional crime lab and new northern Illinois headquarters
Implemented gun dealer licensing to eliminate straw purchases and reduce illegal gun trafficking
- Expanded coverage for mental health services, suicide prevention and substance abuse treatment
- Eliminated the years-long backlog of rape kit evidence to deliver justice to victims more quickly
