Before JB took office, decades of fiscal mismanagement and a dysfunctional Republican governor caused Illinoisans to suffer service cuts, underfunded schools, and reduced state credit ratings as families across Illinois paid the price. Under JB’s leadership, Illinois has restored fiscal responsibility with balanced budgets, reduced debts, and credit upgrades.
Balanced Budgets
Enacted 8 balanced budgets that invest in key priorities for working families
Provided tax relief to working families, including eliminating the state grocery tax
Eliminated Illinois’ nearly $17 billion bill backlog so the state can pay its bills on time and save taxpayers money
Rainy Day Fund
Increased Illinois’ Rainy Day Fund to a record high of $2.54 billion
Credit Upgrades
Achieved 12 credit upgrades from ratings agencies after decades of consistent downgrades
Saving Taxpayers $$
Consolidated 650 local pension plans, saving taxpayers more than $100 million
Better Funded Pensions
Increased the state pension funded ratio by fully funding pension contributions, increasing payments and expanding the pension buyout program to save taxpayers billions

The Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois and the Illinois Education Association (IEA) have endorsed JB Pritzker for Governor in 2026.
