Bruce Rauner Still Silent on Health Care as Illinoisans and Republicans Speak Out

Chicago, IL – Yesterday, Illinoisans rallied in Chicago and Springfield to protest the GOP health care bill and demand Rauner take a stand. The failed governor remained silent.

Rauner’s failure to speak out stands in stark contrast to members of his own party who are putting partisan politics aside to take a principled stand:

  • Republican Governors John Kasich, Charles Baker, and Brian Sandoval all blasted the health plan in a letter to Senate leaders.
  • Republican Senator Marco Rubio warned against cooking something up behind closed doors and rushing it for a vote.
  • Even Donald Trump called the House GOP health care plan “mean,” after hosting a celebratory press conference when the bill first passed.

Bruce Rauner, on the other hand, has gone out of his way to avoid taking any stand at all on the legislation. Last night, Rauner abruptly canceled a fundraiser with the Illinois GOP to dodge appearing with attendees who support the bill.

“Illinoisans across the state are demanding Bruce Rauner take a principled stand on legislation that will directly impact their lives, but Rauner is once again a no show,” said JB Pritzker. “The facts are clear, if the GOP health care bill passes Illinoisans will lose jobs, their premiums will go up, and seniors will be completely devastated. This bill is a direct attack on the people Bruce Rauner is supposed to represent. He does not get to remain silent.”
