Bruce Rauner: “Perfectly Appropriate” to Prioritize Politics Over Veterans

Thursday, March 29, 2018

Chicago, IL – After revelations that the Illinois Department of Public Health’s chief of staff took a leave of absence to perform campaign work during the Quincy Veterans’ Home crisis, Bruce Rauner now claims that it was “perfectly appropriate” for the chief of staff to leave.

As news of his fatal mismanagement continues to break, Rauner has consistently shown his indifference to the health of Illinois’ Veterans. The latest comments come after the failed governor claimed, “these things happen” and after emails revealed his administration prioritized public relations spin over taking immediate steps to protect Veterans’ home residents.

“Even after Veterans and their spouses lost their lives, Bruce Rauner’s administration sent one of the highest-ranking officials at the Department of Public Health to campaign instead of taking immediate action to address the Legionnaires crisis,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “This is as ‘perfectly appropriate’ as Rauner failing to take charge of this state.”
