Biss Please: Dan Biss Voted to Let the State Garnish Wages of Those Who Fall Behind on Student Loans

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Chicago, IL – This week, the Pritzker campaign is continuing a new series, highlighting where Dan Biss’ campaign rhetoric is at odds with his record. Dan Biss says he’s a proven progressive, but he voted to let the state garnish wages when people fall behind on student loans. Let’s check the record.

In 2012, Dan Biss joined Republicans when he voted for SB 3800. The bill Biss supported allowed state government to garnish up to 15% of a person’s wages above $217.50 a week, despite what other bills they might have.“Dan Biss joined Republicans to garnish wages of young people struggling under the burden of exorbitant student loan debt,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “Biss would rather see government go after our state’s brightest than provide them with the tools they need to contribute to the economy and thrive.”
