Bailey: “That’s the Curriculum that Is Being Taught”
CHICAGO, IL — Darren Bailey finally confirmed the details of his school’s extreme curriculum, and they are even more out-of-touch than previously reported. In an interview with KSDK’s Mark Maxwell, Bailey revealed that his school uses a workbook that has kids match members of a family with their roles. Students are supposed to match “husband” with “leads the family” and “wife” with “helps the husband.”
After Bailey confirmed that his school uses the workbook, a member of his campaign promptly ended the interview.
Read the exchange below:
MARK MAXWELL: One reason I asked: the first-grade workbook at the school you founded does have kids draw a line from “leads the family” to “husband,” and “helps the husband” to “wife.” Is that how you think Illinois families should work?
DARREN BAILEY: I think that’s the curriculum that is being taught. And if a family so chooses to have their child educated with the curriculum that we are teaching, then they certainly have that choice.
BAILEY STAFFER: Hey, Mark, we’re going to have to wrap this up.
In response, JB for Governor spokesperson Leah Hurwitz released the following statement:
“The governor of Illinois should not be telling kids what their families are supposed to look like – or that their mothers are subservient to their fathers. Darren Bailey has used his own school to indoctrinate children into his extreme views. He cannot be trusted to lead education for the state of Illinois.”
