Darren Bailey is a Threat to Abortion Rights

CHICAGO, IL — Darren Bailey’s record makes clear that one of his top priorities is ending abortion rights in Illinois. Throughout his career he has positioned himself as an anti-choice extremist and proven he is a threat to Illinois women.

Earlier this year, Bailey and his running mate both received top ratings from Illinois Right to Life Action, indicating they oppose abortion — including cases of rape or incest.

That top rating came as no surprise given Bailey’s disturbing pattern of questioning and outright condemning women who seek abortions and the laws that protect them:

  • Bailey doubled down on his comments from 2017 comparing abortion to the Holocaust.
  • Bailey said he opposed abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.
  • Bailey’s running mate attacked abortion rights by proclaiming that a woman’s right to choose is a “sin against God.”
  • Bailey asserted “there’s no one here more pro-life… than I.”
  • Bailey declared, “Respecting life and ending abortion is one of my top priorities.”
  • After the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Bailey not only celebrated, but he also rejected Gov. Pritzker’s leadership to protect abortion rights in Illinois.

As a woman’s most fundamental right to choose when and how to start a family has been attacked by dangerous extremists like Darren Bailey, Governor JB Pritzker has proven that his commitment to defending reproductive freedom is unwavering. He has fought to make Illinois a safe haven for reproductive care in the Midwest and protected the privacy of those who seek access.

Women simply cannot trust Darren Bailey to choose their health and freedom over his personal extremism.
