Can the ILGOP Spin This?
CHICAGO — Tonight, the most dishonest president in history will tell a weary nation that their lives have never been better. The truth: Donald Trump has nothing to brag about.
“Donald Trump is giving the State of the Union address having ushered in an unprecedented era of presidential insanity,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Americans are being forced to spend more on food and healthcare while Trump looks out for his rich donors. Illinois Republicans should be outraged – but at this point, they are used to falling in line.”
- Higher Prices for all Americans: Donald Trump’s tariff-tax scheme sent consumer prices soaring. Gov. Pritzker demanded a refund for every family in Illinois who got stuck footing the bill.
- Food and Healthcare Snatched from Working Families: The GOP’s signature One Big Beautiful Bill Act will cause 15 million people to lose health coverage and 4 million people to lose the food assistance they rely on.
- Kickbacks for Rich Donors: As working families struggle, Donald Trump is handing out cabinet posts, tariff exemptions, and pardons to his wealthy financial backers. His loyalty is clear.
- Vanity Projects Galore: Donald Trump put his face on the Department of Justice and the Department of Labor. He slapped his name on the Kennedy Center. And at the request of no one in particular, he knocked down the East Wing to build a $400 million ballroom. If there were a Nobel Prize for narcissism, Donald Trump would have won it by now.
Any ILGOP gubernatorial candidate who is serious about fighting for Illinois needs to prove they can stand up to this destructive president. They should start by admitting what Illinoisans watching the State of the Union know: Donald Trump doesn’t care how much families pay for groceries, he’s only looking out for his donors and himself.
